Singer-songwriter, Harry Marshall, has just released his latest enthralling single, ‘Mountain’.
The impactful track is set to be just as successful and melodically catchy as his previous tracks, ‘Epilogue’ and ‘Nowadays’.
‘Mountain’ is a bold and expressive story that is nothing short of courageous.
Harry’s beautiful vocals are led by guitar licks that linger perfectly, capturing the attention of listeners.
He said:
“’Mountain’ was written at a time of extreme guilt about the torment of romance, lust and how it can all get confused with what love actually is. When someone’s loyalty and trust are gone, but somehow they can still be as grounded as ever.”
The Australian-born artist began his career at the age of 13, busking in his hometown and performing in local pubs around Queensland.
After living in Paris, he now resides in London and is exposed to a worldwide audience.
He has been on stage with A-list acts such as Mumford & Sons in Australia and has headlined shows at Camden Assembly and opened at Indigo O2.
Harry’s debut single, ‘Epilogue’ – which was released in 2016 – peaked in the Top 20 of the Indie Music iTunes Chart and sparked thousands of streams internationally.
To celebrate the release of his new single, Harry will be playing a headline show at the Omeara in London tonight!
We caught up with Harry before the release of ‘Mountain’ to chat about the track, what it was to be on stage with Mumford & Sons, and what we can expect at tonight’s show.
Hi Harry, for those who unfortunately might not know about you yet, tell them about yourself.
Well I’m Harry Marshall, I want to make you dance and cry and laugh and literally feel everything it is to be human. I write a lot of my songs from personal experience so if you think that sounds cliché, I must be a cliché… I don’t mind.
Tell us about your latest single, ‘Mountain’.
Mountain is about adultery, being on both sides of it and feeling pretty awful on both of them. But mostly about how a certain person can sometimes make you accept things you shouldn’t and do things that are wrong, all in the pursuit of someone’s affections.
So, you moved from Australia to Paris then London. Why was that?
I’m not sure why, but my whole life I’ve wanted to move to London, dive into the scene and hopefully make something of myself here. But when I finished high school, I thought there was a whole lot of life experience that needed to be had before I moved here. Moving to Paris was (creatively) the best decision I ever made. And moving to London was the most rewarding.
Your debut single, ‘Epilogue’, landed itself in the top 20 in the indie music iTunes chart. What was that like?
Absolutely crazy… I was in the French alps when I found out and I jumped so high I almost threw my phone off the balcony. The upstairs tenants probably thought someone had just won the lottery, and to me, I had. I just hope I win again right??
What was it like to support Mumford and Sons in Australia?
Those guys are absolute rock stars. They say don’t meet your heroes. Unless they’re goddamn Mumford and Sons. But I was 17 when I played with them and we convinced security at the afterparty bar I was 18 so I could drink with them for the rest of the night. Eleven and a half thousand people set the bar pretty high for the rest of my career, but I think I’m on the right track.
You still busk now. What is it about busking you enjoy?
I get to perform for people as my full-time job. That’s all I’ve wanted to do for as long as I can remember, and now I can. I just want to swap the street for a tour van and then I’ll be content.
Can you give us any hints of what your headline show at the Omeara will be like?
The first ever gig I saw in London was at the Omeara, can’t remember who was playing because I was drunk as hell but they played a set that belonged in a stadium. My team and I are aiming for nothing short of that.
Who do you dream of collaborating with in the future?
Oh lord don’t get me started. I think definitely Mumford, gang of youths, The Japanese House, and I’d love to write with Phoebie Bridgers, and Gretta Ray. I could honestly list all my favourite bands but we’d be here for hours.
So, what do you expect your 2019 to look like?
I like to keep my expectations grounded, but what I would love is to be sleep deprived, overworked, in the back of a tour bus, doing so many shows that it blurs the line between brave but achievable, and stupidly overconfident. And also recording my debut record. That’s the dream…
